2016 cadillac srx 3.6 stalled and won't restart, just a black screen when you press the start button. Fresh batteries in the remotes, battery checked by 2 auto parts stores as ok, also replaced the short positive cable from the battery to the positive control board. All contacts have been cleaned. No luck, am at my wits end.

Hi, lock and unlock is working, also the panic button is making the car honk 3 times and then stop.  All lights working on car, only the dash goes blank when I try to start it.  Wait 30 seconds then the dash lights back up.  Also, when this happened the rear hatch (trunk) will no t respond anymore.

Thank you for your response. Have you already contact your dealer? There is a big possibility that the Body Control Module needs to be updated. Advise them to have it check by using a OB2 Scanner to make sure to diagnose the correct issue. But for me the Body Control Module needs to be updated. Hope this helps.

My friend tried to scan for codes to see what the problem may be, but the OB2 Scanner would not connect to the car.  That was with the car in the on position/auxillary

I see. If there is a way you can update the Body Control Module or if you can contact your dealer for them to do it for you.

just for the sake of arguement, I've been trying to correct this problem without having it towed to the dealer and spending hundreds/thousands of dollars diagnosing problems to get it back on track.  I just don't have that type of money, that's why I signed up here, to get a practical solution without contacting the dealership.  I hope you can appreciate that.

I understand Mark. Please try the following steps below and see which one will helps to start your vehicle. If the first solution worked you don't need to proceed with the second solution.

Solution 1

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Wait for 15-30 minutes.
3. Reconnect the battery cable.
4. Start it and drive it around for at least an hour so that the computer box to relearn new variables.

Solution 2

1. Open the hood and look for the fuse box.
2. Pull the fuse that is for the ECU/ECM.
3. Wait for 30 minutes.
4. Reconnect the fuse or if you have a new one try to replace it and then start the car.
5. Let it idle for 5 minutes, then go drive around so the vehicle can relearn and adjust.

Solution 3

1. Turn your key to the accessory position.
2. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
3. Wait for 30 seconds.
4. Tap the pos terminal cable to the pos battery post for three times.
5. Reconnect the terminal cable.
6. Start the vehicle and let it idle for a few minutes, then drive around normally.

If you can do this on your own you can proceed with the steps. This is one of the first AID solution I normally do to reset the the computer of the car. If the following steps I provided did not work, that is the time that you need to remove the BCM (Body Control Module) and have the dealer test it or if you have a good mechanic who can check it to see if they can reset it or update it.

I can try these steps, at least step

I can try step 2 and 3, as step 1 has been tried and not worked.  It is early morning here and raining, so will try these after the rain has stopped and get back to you.  I believe the BCM is under the dash on the drivers side, so that may be a challange for me, but will see what I can do.

Ok, I tried the other 2 options and have gotten no different result.  When looking at info regarding the BCM, it appears that is the culprit for misc electrical problems (erratic).  You know better than I because you are a professional, so I guess I'll keep moving forward with your advise, but it's frustrating being a car enthusiast and not being able to work thru this.  Before I contacted you I ordered a new fuse block for the connections on top of the battery which will be coming later this week, so I'll try that before I start pulling my dash apart.  Thanks

Thank you for your response. You mentioned you have new fresh batteries for the remote the battery of the car is good and replace the battery cable are all good now and what you get is a click sound. Hmmm. Have you check your starter? A failed stater also cause a car not to start. If you already checked this then you can proceed with the other options. Because making your car not to start the most common issue are dead battery, alternator issue, faulty wires and blown fuses, and starter issue. Hope this make sense. Just keep me posted and will keep this page open.

I've gotta be honest, not sure I could reach the starter, but it may be an option should I have no luck with the fuse block on top of the battery later this week

Have that check as well Mark. These are the culprit that I see causing the issue.

you mentioned a body control module before, but there are 8 that I counted in the owner's manual between the 3 fuse boxes.  I'm going to revisit the rear fuse box tomorrow and double check everything there since the only other thing that's not working is the tailgate.  I'm still frustrated and not sure what steps to take next.

Thank you for your response. Try to unplug and reconnect the BCM without reprogrming, but you should disconnect the battery before unplugging electronic modules. Some are quite sensitive and might be damaged if the battery isn't disconnected first. IF by doing this is still the same then you have to check the starter.
